It had been a busy day for the youths of our locality. It was the day for 'Annual Sports' for the kids and a entertainment for us who are a little bit older than them. There were numerous events, from ‘50 metre sprint’ to ‘go as you like’ to ‘sit & draw.’ The events were designed for different age groups under 6 to beyond 60!
The preparations were going for two days, from drawing the track lines to arrange the sitting arrangements, but the weather had almost literally washed them away. Frequent raining during friday night and saturday morning had lowered the enthusiasm of the organisers. But everything changes today morning when the sun rose and glowed at its full extent. They came and made the ground in no time. The track was prepared, the stage was set and the announcement began to draw the attention of them who were intended to. Kids came and conquered the playground. It’s when my daughter, who is a little ‘11 month old’, also started to point to the gathering of the children. I had no way but to bring her to the playground. Immediately she started to play irrespective of others who were a little bit systematic than her, also they were the older than her.
There were events for the under 6 years olds, a 50 metre sprint. When the contestants had taken their position my daughter also tried to go to there. However, I was able to restrict her, but when the sprint began she also started to run, though not along the line but sideways. To my surprise almost everybody cheered her and she completed her own course of sprint. Here is a picture of her completing her race.
After that she became uncontrollable and I had to call my father to assist me in keeping her under control. She played with her own self and my father. Meanwhile other events were going on. 100 metre sprint for the age group of 7-11 years and for 12-14 years. ‘Do the math and run’ and ‘Hit the glass’ for various age groups. And then the tiffin break.
Next were the events for the elders. ‘Break the pot’ for men and women of all ages. ‘Musical Chair’ for the women. ‘Go as you like’ for the kids. And the last, 200 metre sprint for men above 60.
We all enjoyed the day. My little goddess played enthusiastically and my father gave her company. My mother and wife watched the play from the balcony of our house (the ground is very near and our balcony gives a clear view of it). The organisers maintained the events sincerely. The kids had lived the day with their heart opened. I am looking for the day the next year, I hope the kids are hoping for the same too.

She is busy with herself.
